According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total Place of 1.52 square miles (3.94 km2), of which, 1.33 square miles (3.44 km2) is home and 0.19 square miles (0.49 km2) is water.
This region experiences warm (but not hot) and ascetic summers, with no average monthly temperatures above 71.6 °F. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Cosmopolis has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, abbreviated “Csb” on climate maps.
