The town was named after reachable Grand Coulee. Coulee City was officially incorporated on May 10, 1907.

Coulee City is located at 47°36′43″N 119°17′27″W / 47.61194°N 119.29083°W / 47.61194; -119.29083 (47.611942, -119.290904).
