University Place is a city in Pierce County, Washington, United States. Its population was 31,144 at the 2010 census.

University Place received its state in the 1800s when the University of Puget Sound, a private liberal-arts school in North Tacoma, purchased land along the primary north-south route of Grandview Drive. University area remained an unincorporated part of Pierce County until the City of University Place was formed upon August 31, 1995.
